A recent Yorkshire Health Study included more than 4,000 obese adults who were divided in 6 different groups:

Young healthy females – obese women who had several complications related to obesity, like for example, type 2 diabetes

Heavy-drinking males – they were similar to the group above, but only had an increased intake of alcohol

Anxious and unhappy middle-aged – mostly women who had poor wellbeing and mental health

Healthy and affluent elderly – these people mostly have positivehealth, but the characteristics which were present the most were high blood pressureand higher alcohol intake

Physically sick but happy elderly – these were older people who had good mental health but more chronic diseases like for example osteoarthritis

Poorest health – these were people who had the highest number of chronic diseases, but were the most economically deprived.

It was a really important research which helped scientists to understand the causes for obesity, but also how people can fight it. Still, many more researches need to be done.

Body fat is being distributed in 2 different types: gynoid and android.

The android patter is more present in men. It is claimed to be the ‘apple’ body type. The waist circumference these people have is greater than the one of their hips.

The gynoid distribution can mostly be seen in women. It’s the ‘pear’ body shape actually. It means that the waist circumference is smaller than the hip circumference.

Upper Body Obesity (Android)

It is a sign that the person doesn’t exercise enough and eats too much. Start exercising for half an hour every day and stop eating sweets. In case you can’t see an improvement, visit a healthcare professional or a nutritionist.

STOMACH-CENTERED OBESITY (ANDROID)

The excess of weight which appears in this area is mostly caused by depression, anxiety and stress. Relaxation and pairing exercise techniques are thought to be the best thing against this problem. It is advised to visit a therapist, nutritionist or a healthcare professional.

LOWER BODY OBESITY (GYNOID)

Most women have this problem. Include cardiovascular workouts and lower-body resistance training. It is an area that can be very difficult to eliminate. Ask for help if you need it.

SWOLLEN STOMACH OBESITY (ANDROID)

This kind of fat is mostly caused by breathing difficulties or a greater consumption of alcohol. Do some breathing exercises and decrease the consumption of alcohol. If you manage to include proper breathing, you’ll exercise the whole torso.

LOWER BODY OBESITY WHICH INCLUDES LOWER LEGS (GYNOID)

It is a very common problem in pregnant women. They have swollen legs. The best thing to try would be water aerobics so that the pressure of the feet joints and legs is eliminated. Try to sit with raised feet.

LARGE, PROTRUDING STOMACH WITH UPPER BACK FAT (ANDROID)

It is a type of stomach similar to the one caused by inactivity. You need to exercise, but the most important thing would be to have stable levels of blood sugar. Eat smaller portions of food and don’t sit hungry for a longer period of time.

The most important thing you can do to eliminate fat would be to know what type of fat you have. You need to rule out any genetic or hormonal problems in case you don’t see any weight loss. Visiting a health care professional would be the best thing, though!
